Rocket Internet drives its vehicle marketplace Carmudi into Indonesia and the Philippines

Carmudi

Last October, Rocket Internet officially announced the launch of its vehicle classifieds platform Carmudi. In Asia, it’s already set foot in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Today, Carmudi continues its Asian expansion in the Philippines and Indonesia.

The vehicle marketplace enables customers to find or sell new and used cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles online.

Rocket Internet calls the two countries the “most aspiring in Southeast Asia in the online realm.” Carmudi co-founder Stefan Haubold says it saw the “rapid growth in the automotive industry in both the Philippines and Indonesia.”

The Association of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo) estimates Indonesia’s car sales will increase by 10 percent this year, selling 1.3 million vehicles. In the Philippines, car sales jumped by 46.3 percent from August 2012 to August 2013, showing the increasing importance of cars to Filipinos. Haubold adds:

Given these facts paired with the increasing adoption of online services in the whole of Southeast Asia, we expect to see a rapid transition from a more traditional offline market to a thriving online community, benefiting both buyers and sellers.

Camudi is set to compete with Sulit CarsMycars.ph, and Tsikot.com in the Philippines.
