Founded by Sriram Natarajan and Chandrasekhar Nair in 2011, Molbio develops portable devices that can detect various diseases, such as tuberculosis (TB), hepatitis, HIV, dengue, and malaria. It can also perform real-time PCR tests for Covid-19 detection, according to a statement.

The device has been deployed by the Indian government to more than 5,000 testing centers in 40 countries so far, and it has also been endorsed by the World Health Organization as a replacement for smear microscopy in diagnosing TB.

Molbio plans to use the fresh funding for product development and expansion to more countries.

“We see the partnership with Temasek accelerating our efforts to work on newer technologies that address the critical need gaps in diagnosis globally,” said Nair, who is also the CTO and director of Molbio.
