NHN Japan’s Line Camera Gets 5 Million Downloads in Less than a Month

NHN Japan has seen its VoIP application Line skyrocket to dizzying popularity with more than 30 million users to date. And now the company appears to have another hit on its hands, announcing that its free Line Camera photo app has reached the milestone of 5 million downloads.

What’s remarkable here, of course, is the speed with which it reached that mark. Its Android app was published back on April 12, and you may remember that we tested it out at that time. I liked it a lot, and I think it certainly brings a distinct Japanese flavor to the crowded photo apps space, reminiscent of the purikura phenomenon. That app was downloaded a million times in just three days, and became Google Play’s number one camera app in just three days.

On April 26, the iPhone version was released as well, and in its first ten days racked up 2 million downloads, becoming the number one camera app in the app store in 19 countries.

The Android version is also rolling out some new features as well, including a new 4:3 aspect ratio for photos (was previously a square) as well as a collage function. The new features will be coming to the iPhone version soon as well.
