Like a Philippine PAX? ESGS will have games, gamers, and game developers

A few months ago and shortly after SMM Cyberslam, SMM Philippines announced their next big event, the eSports and Gaming Summit (ESGS). Last Saturday, SMM Philippines’ Event Manager Joebert Yu talked more about ESGS during the Game Slam hosted by the Manila chapter of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA-Manila).

According to Yu, ESGS aims to “combine eSports competition and gaming trade show into one big event”. Attendees will not only be able to enjoy competitive matches from popular games such as Dota 2 and Hearthstone, but also see and even test upcoming games and gadgets from different gaming companies.

While we can expect several Philippine game developers to have booths at ESGS, SMM Philippines also intends to bring over international game developers to showcase their games. According to Yu, the aim is to bring attention to the Philippine gaming industry. The event aims to cater to all sorts of gaming enthusiasts, ranging from the casual to the hardcore; from PC gamers to console gamers; and from spectators to professional gamers.

We wanted this event, in some form or way, to be the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Gamescom, Tokyo Game Show (TGS) or Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) event of the Philippines. […] We may be just a partial start and from there, but we can build something more in the future.

The plans for ESGS are big, and it seems that they still have a lot planned. SMM Philippines’ plan to make ESGS the Philippines’ version of PAX or TGS (or at least the start thereof) is indeed exciting, but more details and announcements are needed to be able to say that they can indeed pull it off. However, should SMM Philippines be able to wow everyone with all the faces of gaming in one big event, this could mean the start of something big and interesting for the industry in general.

ESGS will be held from November 15 to 16 at halls three and four of the SMX Convention Center. The exact ticket pricing has not been confirmed yet, but it will range from PhP 135 ($3.09) to PhP 160 ($3.66), with freebies.
