Level Up Games brings Cryptozoic’s Hex: Shards of Fate to the Philippines

At the recently-concluded Pinoy Gaming Festival, Philippine publisher Level Up Games unveiled the latest addition to its lineup of online games — Hex: Shards of Fate. Developed by the makers of the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game Cryptozoic Entertainment, Hex: Shards of Fate or simply Hex is a massively multiplayer online trading card game (MMOTCG). The game was funded by pledges from Kickstarter and was able to exceed its initial funding goal of $300,000 in less than a month. At the end of the campaign, Hex: Shards of Fate raised $2.27 million. That’s a whopping 759% of the initial funding goal.

In the game, players build decks by collecting booster packs, which they can purchase from the item mall. Like in real life TCGs, players can also buy, sell, and trade cards at the in-game auction house. Aside from being able to participate in regional tournaments, players can also compete with other players from all over the world.

What separates Hex from other digital trading card games is how it incorporates RPG concepts into its system. Hex allows players to create a champion from eight races and six character classes. These champions have skill sets of their own and can be customized by equipping them with gear or enhancing them with talents and skills. The game also has a player-versus-enemy feature that includes dungeons, quests, and puzzles. Cards can level up and can be equipped with gear or enchanted with gems.
