Lazada president Jessica Liu to leave the ecommerce major

Alibaba-backed ecommerce giant Lazada said its president Jessica Liu will depart from the company to spend more time with her family.

“Jessica is leaving Lazada to spend more time with her family. Under her leadership, LazMall has grown to become one of the largest online virtual malls in Southeast Asia,” said a spokesperson from the company.

However, the company didn’t give further information as to what her future plans are.

Liu has also served as head of LazMall, which offers branded products and “premium services.” After kicking off her career at China Machine Press, she went on to take up leadership roles at Amazon and Alibaba’s Tmall before serving as Lazada’s president since February 2020.

This move comes after a number of changes in the ecommerce major’s senior management roles in January. One of them was Liu’s appointment as the new CEO for Lazada’s Thailand operations, becoming the company’s first female country head.

Another was Magnus Ekbom, the group’s co-founder and current chief strategy officer, taking up the additional role of acting CEO for its Malaysian operations, replacing Leo Chow.

Recently, Lazada also announced a partnership with ComfortDelGro as the company looks to boost its offerings and “relevance as a one-stop destination for daily needs.”

In June 2020, the ecommerce firm named Chun Li as its new group chief executive officer, taking over from Pierre Poignant.
