FPT, Landing AI team up to train Vietnam’s AI workforce

Landing AI, founded and led by renowned AI scientist Andrew Ng, has partnered with FPT Corporation, a global tech firm headquartered in Vietnam, to train the country’s AI workforce and deploy computer vision solutions across the Asia-Pacific region.

“I’ve been talking about the possibilities of increasing our physical presence here in Vietnam,” said Ng. “There is tremendous optimism about what we could achieve together for future generations driven by AI innovations.”

While the partnership does not involve direct financial investments, Landing AI and FPT Software are considering opening an engineering center in the country to develop AI talent. Ng, who is also the co-founder and chairman of e-learning firm Coursera, will also advise FPT in developing an AI curriculum for K-12 students.

For computer vision, which Ng predicts will be the next big thing in the AI revolution, Landing AI expects to use FPT’s proprietary data sources to train AI models. “Not on pictures of happy smiling people on the internet but on industrial images to build computer visual AI because the technology is getting there,” he added.

FPT is investing 300 billion dong (US$12.2 million) in AI research and development between 2021 and 2026. The IT conglomerate reported total revenue of US$1.9 billion in 2022.
