After ceasing operations in Thailand in February, healthtech firm Good Doctor is now fully focused on Indonesia.

In an email interview with Tech in Asia, Good Doctor CEO Danu Wicaksana said the startup has seen good traction in Indonesia, where it operates both as a standalone app and also as part of GrabHealth.

Good Doctor has raised US$10 million in a series A funding round led by MDI Ventures, with participation from existing investor Grab.

The healthtech firm said that following this investment, Good Doctor will no longer be a joint venture between Grab, SoftBank Vision Fund, and China’s Ping An, which was formed in 2018. Instead, the first two have become minority shareholders along with MDI, while Ping An has exited.

Funding details

  • Funding amount: $10,000,000
  • Lead investor: MDI Ventures
  • Other investor: Grab
  • Stage: Series A

While its operation within GrabHealth aims to target end consumers, the standalone app focuses on serving enterprises.

Good Doctor has partnered with over 2,500 doctors and 4,500 pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, and official health laboratories. Its clients include more than 2,500 companies in Indonesia, reaching 15 million users for both its B2B and B2C segments.

Wicaksana said Good Doctor also wants to enter the business-to-government segment, calling for the need to include telehealth in Indonesia’s health insurance program, BPJS Kesehatan.

The startup will use the new capital to expand across Indonesia with a mission to provide one doctor for every family. It aims to achieve profitability within the next 18 months.
