eBay India launches ‘9 Hour Delivery’ service in Mumbai for office-goers

With the e-commerce industry growing like never before in India, the major players are going all out to stay ahead of the competition.

After local e-commerce market players Flipkart and Snapdeal launched same- and next-day delivery services in a few select places in India, now it’s eBay India‘s turn to tighten its grip on the crowded Indian market.

eBay India just launched a nine-hour delivery service in Mumbai. The service covers lifestyle and technology products. It’s mainly targeted at office goers and working class people across the city – a large section of the urban population.

To take advantage of the new service, users need to place an order by noon and it will be delivered by 9pm that evening. Though the service doesn’t incur any extra charges, it’s only available on select products.

eBay India was originally part of US-based Bazee.com, a first-of-its-kind e-auction portal that had an Indian subsidiary. It was later was bought by eBay Inc. in a deal worth some $50 million back in 2004.

The e-commerce market scene in India seems to follow a similar track as the country’s telecom industry some five or six years ago. The competition became so fierce almost it killed the telecom industry, which was marred with malpractice and corruption linked to the Indian government. Lets hope these e-commerce players do business fairly, employ good ethics, and avoid malpractice.
