Kaifu Lee Will Post His Autobiography for Free on Amazon

Kaifu Lee says 'Whoa there, science cop!' (...he never actually said that.)

Last week we wrote about “science cop” Fang Zhouzi’s accusations of exaggeration in Kaifu Lee’s autobiography, which he was airing on Sina Weibo, and since then he has more or less kept up the pressure. Today, the Beijing News is reporting that Kaifu Lee has decided to provide the English version of his biography for free on Amazon.

This decision comes after Fang leveled criticisms at Lee about the differences between the English and Chinese versions of the book. Lee responded that the two versions were not word-for-word translations, and rather were meant to reflect the differing preferences of the reading audiences that might pick them up, but he later told the Beijing News people could decide for themselves as he’ll be providing the English copy for free online.

Aside from the fact that he plans to do this “on Amazon,” it’s not clear from the interview exactly how or when this free copy will be available. At present, both the American and Chinese Amazon stores appear to carry only Lee’s Chinese autobiography, and then only in paperback form.

We posted a Weibo message directed at Lee asking for clarification on the timing of the release, but given how popular his Weibo is, I doubt we’ll hear back. In any event, we’ll be keeping an eye on this, as Fang and Lee’s little spat could end up being a great way for us to be able to read Lee’s autobiography for free! Who doesn’t like free things?
