Red Dot Ventures leads USD 661K round in mobile games company Daylight Studios

Red Dot Ventures announced today that it has led a SGD 839k (USD 661k) investment round in Daylight Studios, a mobile games company based in Singapore. The National Research Foundation is also involved under the Technology Incubation Scheme. Other investors are not disclosed.

With a team of 20 developers, Daylight Studios has produced two titles for the feature phone: flagship game Reign of Heroes and Hisho Collection Mall Empire. Reign of Heroes, a combat strategy title, peaked at 180k daily active users about a year ago. It is available on mig33, Kotagames, and Moli Town in four languages.

The company is currently working on Conquest Age, an MMORPG for the smartphone. It has signed a deal with Marvelous AQL Europe to publish its games in the West and is looking for more partnerships to distribute its games to other parts of the world.

With the funding secured, Daylight Studios plans to hire more game developers.

Red Dot Ventures has been investing in a wide variety of Singapore startups this year. These include consumer 3D printer startup Pirate3D, medical device company Safety Syringes, and Gcorelab, a cleantech company.

The investment firm is headed by managing director Leslie Loh, who founded banking software company System Access and grew it into a public listed company with 500 staff around the world.

Julian Low, founding member and COO of popular customer engagement platform Zopim, is the entrepreneur-in-residence. His role is to help portfolio companies to scale.
