Japanese fighting game eSports group Topanga is hosting one last Street Fighter 4 event

With Ultra Street Fighter IV out in arcades soon, Topanga, the Japanese eSports production specializing in fighting games, is hosting its last Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition v. 2012 tournament this weekend.

The Topanga World League will run from April 10 to April 13, 2014, and is featuring top players from Asia (including EG|PR Balrog from the US). The participants of Topanga World League, as listed out in this helpful Facebook post that details the announcement made earlier on Topanga TV, is as follows:

MCZ|Umehara (Ryu) – Japan
RZR|Fuudo (Fei Long) – Japan
Bonchan (Sagat) – Japan
wao (Oni, Dudley) – Japan
EG|PR Balrog (Balrog) – United States, Puerto Rico
QANBA|XiaoHai (Cammy, Evil Ryu) – China
GEM|INFILTRATION (Akuma, Chun-Li) – South Korea
RZR|Xian (Gen, Guile) – Singapore

The prize payouts are pretty damn high, with the first place winner of the Topanga World League walking away with 1,500,000 yen, or about $14,756. And that’s just the first place winner. In total, the pot for Topanga World League is 2,500,000 yen, about $24,591.

It sounds hype, and I wish I could witness Xian going up against Infiltration (and hopefully beating him) but while Topanga World League has a paid broadcast on Niconico, it’s not going to be available to viewers outside of Japan. There has been no discernible reason given for the IP block.

Nonetheless, if you live in Japan or have a VPN, four day access to the stream is 3,500 yen ($34.40), while individual day tickets are 1,500 yen (about $15).
