Japan, Korea, and China face off in a new League of Legends Asian sub-league this December

A new Asian sub-league has been announced for League of Legends, which will include teams from Japan, Korea, China, and Taiwan. Tentatively named PUB STAR, the information was first revealed by Japanese team DetonatioN FM on its website. According to the team, this secondary league is planned to start in mid-December this year, and will consist of teams from:

-China’s League of Legends Secondary Pro League (LSPL)
-Korea’s NiceGameTV League of Legends Battle (NLB)
-Taiwan’s League of Legends Nova League (LNL)
-And of course, team DetonatioN FM itself

Furthermore, while the tournament will be sponsored and hosted in China, games will be played on the Korean servers.

Tournament format:
-16 total teams
-Teams will be split into four groups and face off in a best-of-two double round robin
-The top two teams will fight in a best-of-five final tournament
-Total prize pool: 1 million Yen ($9,712 USD)

Watching teams from different countries play against each other is always interesting, and PUB STAR should be a great step towards promoting some lesser known teams in Asia. Having said that, we’re looking forward to seeing whether or not this league will be successful, and whether or not a similar one will be formed between the top teams.
