Sequoia names 12 startups in Surge’s 8th cohort

Sequoia’s India and Southeast Asia units have named the 12 early-stage startups selected for the eighth batch of Surge, the VC firm’s rapid scale-up program.

Half of the startups chosen have at least one female founder, including two medical doctors from Indonesia and a Ph.D. holder of natural language processing.

This cohort, made up of 30 founders, adds to Surge’s current pool of over 300 founders from more than 130 startups.

Speakers and mentors that have advised Surge entrepreneurs include Info Edge co-founder Sanjeev Bikchandani, Freshworks founder Girish Mathrubootham, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal, and Meesho founder Vidit Aatrey.

Founders: Nitesh Shroff and Preeti Bhargava

Based in the US, the AI-powered autonomous medical coding platform helps hospitals get paid better and faster by automating their insurance claims submissions.

AltWorld

Founders: Alok Maurya, Saurabh Maheshwari , and Subham Kumar Boundia

Targeting Gen Z gamers, the India-based firm offers a metaverse platform that allows users to create custom 3D worlds. It also connects these worlds to offer an immersive social gaming experience.
