Is Zoolock too OP? Chinese unknown qualifies for Blizzcon using the infamous deck

Last night, the final matches of the Chinese qualifiers for the Hearthstone Blizzcon World Championships concluded, giving us the four players China will be sending to the US: Small Cloth Lu, Qi Ruo, RunAndGun, and Little Fish Big Fairy. The latter came as a surprise to many, as he ousted better-known player IGkowfox.

Both RunAndGun and Little Fish Great Big Fairy swept away their opponents without conceding a single loss, but it’s Little Fish Big Fairy’s win that has triggered the greater reaction amongst Hearthstone fans. The deck he used to defeat all of IGkowfox’s was the infamous ‘zoolock’ deck. Little Fish Big Fairy also used the deck to knock out his previous opponent Blue Hair, one of China’s big three Hearthstone players.

Zoolock is a Warlock deck considered cheap or at least overpowered by many. This feeds into more frequent complaints about the game as being too reliant on RNG. People complain that more skilled players doing everything correctly still lose too frequently to lucky draws. However, Small Cloth Lu defeated Tong Yunyun’s own zoolock with a mid-range Hunter deck and went on to take another qualifying place.

7 Ruo rounded out the four by besting Beautiful Sorrowful Green Thoughts, the Top 8’s only remaining woman competitor, beating her 3-1.
