Is Anime Festival Asia 2013 worth checking out if you’re a gamer?

Surprisingly enough, yes! Located in Singapore’s Suntec Convention Centre, Anime Festival Asia 2013 (AFA 2013) is obviously a mecca for our local and regional otaku, but its S$10 (about $8) floor-only ticket will make it an enjoyable afternoon trip for gamers too.

Limited edition Million Arthur swag

Yes, Square Enix’s Million Arthur is coming to Singapore, and you walk away with limited edition postcards and badges and a super rare in-game card if you pre-register at AFA 13. Since it’s being published by Cherry Credits, you also get a chance to airlift yourself a cherry plush from their trusty UFO machine once you register.

First glimpse at Sword Art Online fone

This clearly is one for the Sword Art Online fans, but Sword Art Online fone’s English edition is coming to Singapore and the USA first, so why not pay the LEGS Singapore booth a visit and check out the backdrop we talked about?

Fan-made game stuff

Not gonna lie, I make a beeline for the artists’ alley at every convention. AFA 13 was no exception. Expect to see a lot of anime stuff, but also enough cutesy, fan-made game accessories. I especially liked the SO BEAT booth in the alley, which had hand drawn badges of characters from Chrono Trigger, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Pokemon X & Y.

Geeky t-shirts from Xmashed Gear

Yeah, they’re at practically every local con, but their shirts are pretty good so we’re not complaining. Currently Singapore’s most well known retailer of original geek shirts, Xmashed Gear has a thing for design mash-ups.

BONUS: A shirt with Inori Aizawa a.k.a. the Internet Explorer girl on it

inori

The internets have been exploding with the Internet Explorer girl, but don’t get your panties in a bunch over how that abysmal browser doesn’t deserve such a cute girl as mascot. According to CNET, Inori Aizawa has actually been specially created for AFA 13 as part of a local marketing program targeting the con.
