This is the second tranche of the fundraise that was announced at the beginning of the year, which was “extended to accommodate due diligence processes,” the Hong Kong-based company said in a statement.
It plans to use the fresh capital to bankroll acquisitions and investments, to secure licenses for intellectual properties, and to develop more products, among others. The company is also looking to expand its foray into the metaverse.
In January, it banked US$359 million in a round led by Liberty City Ventures. Sequoia China and Winklevoss Capital also joined the fundraise, which valued Animoca at US$5 billion. The latest fundraise, however, boosts its valuation to US$5.9 billion, according to The Block.
