Hi readers,
Founders start businesses for several reasons. But no matter their motivations for starting up, at some point in their journey, they’ll need to start looking at what the end of the road looks like for their businesses – in other words, the exit.
Exits take many forms. Some companies list on the public markets, but many more go through the merger and acquisition (M&A) process, combining forces with other firms to become something bigger. And hopefully, founders, investors, and early employees get to reap some reward for their labor.
Today we look at,

PREMIUM SUMMARY
The biggest exits to come out of Indonesia

What lies ahead for a startup at the end of its journey? Well, it makes an exit. Some companies go public, listing on a stock exchange, but others either merge with another business or get acquired by someone bigger.
Indonesia has seen a fair number of M&As over the years – we’ve pulled together a list of some of the biggest.
- It’s quite the variety: The top five names on the list come from different industries – payments, digital media, business-to-business ecommerce, internet of things, and software-as-a-service.
- Fintech wins big: A fair number of the startups on the list operate in the fintech space across verticals such as payments and remittances and investment tools and platforms.
- Going to the big G: The biggest acquisition on record is that of Moka, a mobile point-of-sale startup. It was acquired by Gojek in 2020 for a cool US$130 million as part of the ride-hailing giant’s plans to cement its position in Indonesia’s digital payments industry.
