500 Global expands SEA leadership team

Silicon Valley-based VC firm 500 Global has appointed Shahril Ibrahim, Saemin Ahn, and Martin Cu as partners in Southeast Asia.

Ibrahim previously acted as head and director of investments at Khazanah Americas, helping the Malaysian sovereign wealth fund set up operations in the US.

Ahn was the founding managing partner of Rakuten Ventures, leading investments in 25 tech firms including GoTo Group, Coda Payments, Carousell, and Epic. He also held several managerial roles at Google Korea and Singapore.

Prior to his new role, Cu was the Philippine country head of logistics unicorn Ninja Van, growing the national team to over 5,000 employees. He also occupied various marketing leadership roles at Zalora Philippines.

In the past decade, 500 Global has invested in more than 340 companies in Southeast Asia. Its portfolio includes major tech players like Grab, Bukalapak, FinAccel, Carsome, Carousell, and eFishery.

The VC firm has a global portfolio with more than US$2.7 billion in assets under management.
