Product: startups are all about it. It’s likely the keystone of your business; without it, the whole thing just falls apart. It’s no wonder one of the lovely acronyms of business speak is MVP – minimum viable product, one of the most essential things a startup has to show when looking for support or investment.
Product Hunt meetups are meant to celebrate those products, and the latest one taking place at Singapore’s The Working Capitol co-working space, and organized by work chat app Pie and education provider General Assembly didn’t skew from that path. It did, however, go about it in a different way.
Instead of panel discussions and insights, six startups pitched to the audience and presented their products. A two-man panel of experts then provided feedback. Nav Pawera, head of design at Singapore-based design studio Buuuk offered his opinion on, well, design, and Michael Blakey, Singapore-based angel investor, offered his expertise from the investment side.

It was an exciting live display of how investors and designers approach products differently.”

In order of appearance, here are the startups that took the stage at the event.
Parrot
Parrot is a tool aimed at marketers and social media managers. Users can discover popular (or viral, as the kids say these days) online content and share it on social media. The tool allows the user to share the content while at the same time adding to the linked page an appropriate call-to-action button, such as a prompt to visit the user’s website, subscribe to a newsletter, and so on.

Lively by Tiny Whale
Tiny Whale is a small software studio/creative agency in Singapore. The company has previously developed apps like Instagram viewer for iPad Retro and social photo editing tool PicStamp.
Its latest app is Lively, a tool that exports Live Photos (the iPhone 6s’ moving picture feature) to GIFs and movies, ready to be shared online. Co-founder Jason Dinh says the studio created the app as a fun exercise, without much thought about capitalizing on it.
Side note: everyone at the event pronounced GIF as “ghif,” so I’m willing to take this as official confirmation that Singapore is on the side of good here.
Djenee
Online personal concierge services are all the rage these days, it seems. US-based Magic was the one that brought the space into the mainstream consciousness, but startups like Indonesia’s YesBoss, Malaysia’s BeLazee, also operating in Singapore, and China’s Laiye (that lives inside WeChat’s platform) are making their own mark in their markets.
