The Faculty of Engineering (FTUI) at University of Indonesia is exploring science and doing experiments using the latest gadgets, such as iPads as instrument audio mixers.
FTUI’s course ‘Audio System Engineer Training’ (ASET), which is run with the audio engineering company Kiss Productions, consists of Indonesian experts in audio engineering, including Addie MS, a famous orchestra conductor, as well as teachers from FTUI. They will teach sound processing techniques with specialist audio devices and common gadgets such as Apple’s iPad and desktop iMac.
“Participants will also be taught how to remotely mix sounds with the iPad via WiFi,” said Harry Kiss, director of Kiss Productions.
Anyone can participate through online registration on the ASET website, or directly through the campus. For young people – students, musicians – and especially gadget lovers, this training could be very interesting – it’s a chance to pick up new skills in audio engineering whilst playing with some neat gadgets – like the iPad, which is now gaining in popularity in Indonesia and across the world.
Among other tablet computers which now crowd the Indonesian market, the iPad is arguably the most popular. And, by learning audio engineering systems at ASET with this new technology, hopefully there will be more sound experts and technicians in future, and more development in Indonesian technology.
