Golden Gate Ventures announces 6 new investments into Southeast Asian startups

hand holding out money
Singapore-based venture capital firm Golden Gate Ventures announced its latest batch of investments today at Tech in Asia Jakarta 2015. The announcement involves six Southeast Asia-based startups, in keeping with the VC’s record of investing into ecommerce, marketplaces, and mobile services. Appropriately for the venue, three of the new portfolio companies are based in Indonesia.

Alodokter

Indonesia’s Alodokter is an online health information website. The company claims to have more than 3.5 million visitors every month. The undisclosed seed funding was raised back in April 2015 from 500 Startups, Fenox Venture Capital, Golden Gate Ventures, and Lim Der Shing. (UPDATE, 14:15: The story erroneously mentioned Alodokter had received new investment since April 2015. This has been corrected.)

Ruma

Ruma is a for-profit social enterprise based in Indonesia. Its mission is to help low-income people find better opportunities for themselves, by making them “agents” in their communities. The agents provide a variety of services and earn income by splitting the commissions the company receives from those services. It has previously received funding from Golden Gate, Unitus Impact, and Omidyar Network.

Indotrading

Indotrading is an Indonesia-based online B2B marketplace. The company helps retailers and merchants set up their online presence, including ecommerce tools and customized domain names. The company had previously raised a series A round of US$1.5 million from Rebright Partners, GMO Venture Partners, Golden Gate Ventures, Aucfan, OPT SEA, and Convergence Ventures.

Claim Di

Thailand-based Claim Di is a mobile app connecting drivers with their car insurance companies. It’s designed to make communication easier when it comes to things like insurance claims. Golden Gate was joined by 500 Startups and angel investors for this round. Golden Gate and 500 Startups had also been part of Claim Di’s seed round back in August 2014.

GoQuo

GoQuo hails from Malaysia and provides ecommerce solutions for airlines and online travel agents (OTAs). Some of the company’s products include flight booking engines, airline loyalty program platforms, and solutions for additional services like hotel bookings and car rentals. GoQuo had previously raised funding from Crystal Horse Investments and Digital Media Partners.

Stamp

Thai startup Stamp makes a multi-factor authentication device. The Secure Touch gizmo is a “digital fingerprint” that can be used for authentication and verification by “stamping” it on any type of capacitive touchscreen. The company has presence in Thailand and Singapore, and has raised funding from Golden Gate Ventures and Altpoint Ventures.
