Gojek to take on GrabAds with the launch of digital ads solution GoScreen

Gojek announced that it has launched an out-of-home advertising service called GoScreen through its ad business arm Promogo.

Available in Greater Jakarta, GoScreen is an affordable solution for brands, including micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), to advertise on digital billboards attached to Gojek’s two-wheeled vehicles. It charges a starting price of 10 million rupiah (US$709.80) for 250,000 potential consumers.

With GoScreen, brands can monitor actual impressions in real time through an online dashboard and gain insights that will help them re-target relevant consumers, the company said.

Based on performance-based eligibility, driver-partners who join the program will receive additional income that’s pegged to the distance they cover with their vehicles.

“The key pain points that brands face with out-of-home advertising today include the inability to target their campaigns and measure performance,” said Antoine de Carbonnel, Gojek’s chief commercial officer, in a statement. “GoScreen addresses this through location and time-based campaigns as well as precise measurement technology that provides brands with an efficient return on investment.”

It also provides a new source of revenue for the wider Gojek business, he added. Apart from GoScreen, the company also recently launched GoToko to help digitize mom and pop shops.

Gojek archrival Grab also has its digital advertising solution GrabAds, which was launched in 2018. These ads are emblazoned on the vehicles of Grab drivers or featured on tablets found inside their cars.

The company was expected to generate over US$245 million in annual ad-based revenue from its GrabAds business, including in-app advertising, in-car ads, and merchant marketing services.
