Cambodian media startup secures series A funding from Thailand’s True Group
Launched in 2012, Mediaload is a digital media platform that provides local breaking news, video, audio and feature stories. Currently incorporated in Singapore, it runs Khmerload in Cambodia and Myanmarload in Myanmar.
The company has garnered almost 15 million Facebook followers, boasting a combined 8 million unique users per month across all of its platforms. Mediaload said it plans to use the new funds to improve its content offerings and gear up for regional expansion.
Mediaload operates under its parent firm Groupin, the internet startup that also runs Cambodian ecommerce platform Little Fashion. In 2019, Groupin raised US$5 million in its series A raise from Belt Road Capital Management, which stood as the largest startup funding round raised in the country at the time.
In 2017, Mediaload received US$200,000 in seed funding from 500 Startups, making it the first Cambodian startup backed by a Silicon Valley-based VC firm.
