Indian edtech firm Udayy shuts operations, lays off all staff

India-based edtech startup Udayy has laid off 100% of its staff as the company decided to shut its operations in April amid subdued demand in a post-Covid-19 period, Entrackr reported, citing five sources familiar with the matter.

Udayy founder Soumya Yadav said the company considered multiple strategies and adjacent pivots to sustain the business. However, none of them were “promising enough.” She added that the move to shut the business was not due to a funding crunch.

The company reportedly helped nearly all of its employees find new jobs after the layoffs. Udayy has paid severance to all of its employees, refunded money to its customers, and is returning its remaining capital to investors.

Founded in 2019, Udayy provides a platform that teaches mathematics and English to children between six to 11 years old through an interactive classroom with three to five students.
