India’s Truweight puts on VC muscle to help users shed weight

truweight

India’s Truweight, a weightloss startup today announced that it has raised an undisclosed amount in series A funding from early stage venture capital firm Kalaari Capital.

Truweight provides customized nutrition plans based on a user’s body type, lifestyle, health issues, and tendency to put on weight. These plans get users to eat the startup’s own “Super Food” collection, which is its range of staples made from things like spirulina, barley, and herbs, instead of consuming non-healthy alternatives.

“Superfoods are nutrient-rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well-being. Most of them are not part of our daily food intake because of lack of knowledge and availability. For instance, one gram of spirulina is equivalent to one kilogram of assorted vegetables,” explains Vishnu Saraf, founder of Truweight.

The company has 30 nutritionists who counsel online and at the weight loss centers.

It claims to have served 7,000 people in Hyderabad. With fresh funding, it plans to expand to Bangalore and Chennai and launch an app to connect clients to their personal dietitian for real-time counseling.

Truweight competes with angel-funded fitness device Goqii and Healthstart accelerator-backed Obino.
