Ratan Tata, former chief of Tata Group and currently chairman emeritus of group’s holding company Tata Sons, has invested in Kaaryah, an Indian fashion portal for women’s wear.
The funding amount is undisclosed.
Kaaryah caters to the formal women’s wear segment. It has a presence on both online marketplaces and its own site. The two-year-old startup claims to be the only global brand that offers western wear in 18 sizes, compared to an average of 12-13 sizes. It also introduces 150 new designs every month.
Tata retired as the head of Tata Group, the US$ 100 billion conglomerate, in December 2012 and has since taken an active interest in the tech startup space. Recently, he invested an undisclosed amount in Xiaomi and mobile commerce company Paytm.
Tata’s early investments were in Snapdeal in August 2014. Following that, he picked up stakes in online jewelry portal Bluestone, furniture seller Urban Ladder, and GirnarSoft, the parent company of automobile portals Cardekho, Pricedekho, Gaadi, and Bikedekho.
