In a land where cricket is religion, the price of worship just got pricier

Cricket is religion in India. Cricketers are worshipped as gods. People salivate at the mere notion of an Indian Premier League match (the cricket equivalent to EPL) and anything associated with the game is usually guaranteed to make money.

This is why you can’t help but feel taken advantage of with the steep pricing of Don Bradman Cricket 14. Out on June 30, the game will cost INR 3699 (approx. $61), twice of what you’d usually pay for a new release on PC in India. This collector’s edition bonus pack will get you a steelbook and a DVD filled with documentaries on Don Bradman and the 1948 Australian team (known as the Invincibles for their five month winning streak) on top of the game.

If that’s too pricey, a standard edition is available digitally on Steam. While there’s no price at the moment, it should cost around $50 when it hits.

It has been close to five years since India has had a major cricket game released on PC. That was Cricket Revolution from Mindstorm Studios, based out of Pakistan. While it was a fine game, the focus was mostly on multiplayer with a threadbare single-player component.

Having played Don Bradman Cricket 14 on the Xbox 360 extensively, I’m looking forward to digging into what is quite possibly the coolest career mode in a sports game all over again with updated graphics on the PC. In spite of the annoyingly high price, of course. I’m not interested in angering the gods. Yet.
