East Ventures launches $30m fund for healthcare investments

East Ventures is launching a dedicated fund for healthcare investments, with US$30 million already committed to the investment vehicle. (Disclosure: East Ventures is an investor in Tech in Asia.)

The news was announced by Willson Cuaca – co-founder and managing partner of East Ventures – during this year’s Tech in Asia Conference in Jakarta. He was in a fireside chat with Budi Gunadi Sadikin, the Minister of Health of Indonesia.

Earlier this year, East Ventures and Indonesia’s Ministry of Health, alongside business consulting firm Redseer, released a report on genomics, which also highlighted how the private and public sectors can collaborate to boost the archipelago’s healthcare capabilities.

At the time, Cuaca said that East Ventures will be doubling down on its investments in genomics, adding that the sector would help usher in “an adaptive and proactive healthcare system.”

Some of East Ventures’ investments in the space include Singapore-based biotech company NalaGenetics and, more recently, Singaporean gut microbiome firm Amili.

East Ventures also recently teamed up with Seoul-based VC firm SV Investment for a fund targeting promising South Korean startups in areas like biotech and healthcare, future mobility, and media and content. The fund is eyeing a total size of US$100 million.
