Huawei Launches Three Phones for India Market

Chinese manufacturer Huawei announced some new developments in its India operations today. First, the company is to establish a product development center dedicated to the design and testing of phones for the Indian market. Second, it will launch three new handsets in India: the IDEOS X5, IDEOS X2, and IDEOS Chat.

Ranging in price from 8199 to 14999 INR ($183 to $335), these IDEOS phones all run on Android and are aimed the the country’s young urban consumers. The X5 looks particularly attractive smartphone with a 3.8-inch touchscreen and 5 megapixel camera capable of 720p video capture and playback.

Huawei Devices Marketing Director Anand Narang commented on the announcement of the new lineup:

It is an opportune time for us to launch our new and exciting range of IDEOS smartphones whether its the X5, X2 or the Chat. We will continue to bring the latest, smartest and most technologically advanced handsets for our consumers at accessible prices.

Huawei announced late last year that it would be investing $2 billion in India over a five-year span. In much the same way that Indonesia benefits from more affordable Chinese-made handsets, hopefully this might impact the Indian mobile market in a similar manner.
