How Businesses Are Using Augmented Reality

augmented reality clothingIn a nutshell, Augmented Reality adds a layer of information or graphics to your computer and smartphone camera screens upon activation.

It is a relatively new innovation but some businesses are already embracing it to improve their product quality, consumer experience or advertising effort; a great example of a new age marketer.

For those who’re confused with what Augmented Reality is, Commoncraft can explain it to you in 2 minutes. Otherwise let’s get back to business, with our 3 examples below.

1. Product Quality – Topps 3D Live Trading Cards

Now, with these cards powered with Augmented Reality capabilities, it makes normal trading cards obsolete. These AR enabled trading cards differentiate itself and are probably in their own league. The graphic is truly real and engaging and I certainly wouldn’t mind getting a pack to experience it.

2. Consumer Experience – AR Shopping

Be wowed! Zugara’s online shopping improves buying experience through Augmented Reality and Motion Capture. The Webcam Social Shopper app allows you to seemingly hold articles of clothing up in front of yourself, while it tracks your movements so you can interact with the site’s content when standing several feet away from your computer’s controls. Ladies would certainly love this.

3. Advertising – BMW Z4 in 3D

BMW chose to use Augmented Reality technology to communicate its smooth and sleek Z4 experience. Users are able to do a virtual test drive and post their art pieces through various social sites. Now, wouldn’t that be great if your brochures or leaflets have such Augmented Reality capabilities too? It’s a simple implementation but adds greatly to the experience consumers get. Your messages are now felt rather than told.
