Hello reader,

In last week’s edition of this newsletter, my colleague Jonathan talked about Japan topping our weekly list of the biggest fundraising deals, with healthtech firm Kakehashi raising almost US$98 million in series D money.

This week, the Land of the Rising Sun is once again dominating our list, with yet another healthtech company – SDP Japan, which raised US$31 million, also in a series D round.

Is there something in the water for Japanese healthtech? Perhaps so – the nation is grappling with an aging population and healthcare disparities, and healthtech can certainly help address these challenges.

Could their solutions be applicable to Southeast Asia as well, considering our own struggles with healthcare? It’s certainly worth thinking about.
