GrabSupermarket currently services the Klang Valley, delivering over 2,500 products including household goods, pantry essentials, beauty and health essentials, and freshly sourced produce. It was launched last month as part of a pilot program.

The online supermarket does not charge a delivery fee and promises to deliver products within 24 hours.

This new development by the super app comes after the Covid-19 outbreak has fueled demand for home deliveries.

“We saw an incredible take-up of GrabSupermarket among consumers during the pilot phase, with fresh produce such as fresh vegetables, fruits, and poultry making up almost 50% of our orders,” said Sean Goh, managing director of Grab Malaysia.

Though the company launched the service in Klang Valley, it plans on expanding its coverage into other cities in Malaysia. It will also invest in building a better in-app supermarket browsing experience for customers.

Online grocery is booming in Asia, with the market expected to grow to US$295 billion by 2023, according to research by IGD Asia.
