In brief: Google acquires Indian train timetable app

Google has acquired Sigmoid Labs, which runs Where Is My Train.

The app offers offline integration of Indian Railways timetables, using cell-tower information to locate trains [and] also helps customers zero in on trains with just the source and destination or even partial train names.

Sigmoid announced its acquisition by the US tech giant in a blog post. Google reportedly paid between US$30 million and US$40 million to buy the Bangalore-based startup, according to the Times.

Where Is My Train has been downloaded over 10 million times, making it one of India’s most-downloaded transportation apps.
