Gojek mulls food delivery service in Singapore
Correction (Nov. 5, 3:16p.m. SGT): This article has been updated after a clarification from Gojek about its plans in Singapore.
“Ride-hailing firm Gojek is looking into providing food delivery and courier services in the future as part of its expansion strategy here [in Singapore],” The Straits Times reported.
Details:
- Gojek Singapore general manager Lien Choong Luen told the publication that these two services “make a lot of sense” for Singapore but is currently focused on growing its ride-hailing service in the city-state.
- The company currently offers food delivery and courier services only in Vietnam and Indonesia.
Dive deeper:
- The firm is likely to face strong competition in the two categories. Foodpanda, GrabFood, and Deliveroo already operate in Singapore’s food delivery space, while Ninja Van, Lalamove, SingPost, and other players occupy the courier delivery industry.
- Gojek entered Singapore in 2018, and since then, it has been offering ride-hailing services. A section of its technology team is also based in the country. (Read: Gojek Singapore burned $141m in first full year of operations)
