We learned recently that one of the notable details about the rise of Google+ is how strongly it has taken hold of Indian early adopters, with that nation ranking only behind the US in terms of users on the new platform. But according to new data from comScore, the penetration of GMail in India is pretty remarkable as well, with a whopping market penetration of 62 percent.
We recently reported about how the Indian government has come under fire because of its affinity for using free web mail. It appears that Gmail accounts for the majority of those web mail users, growing 16 percent in India over the past year, according to The Hindustan Times citing comScore.
We were curious to find out more about which countries were the biggest Gmail users on the planet, so we dropped comScore a line this morning to find out a little more. They obliged by sending along the following numbers, with the disclaimer that it only represents “access from a home or work computer (excludes mobile) for persons age 15+.”
As you can see, India is way ahead of even number two Brazil, which sits a distant 20 percent back. From an Asia perspective, we can also see that Vietnam appears to be a big Gmail nation as well, with a 36 percent reach.
