NTT Docomo Says its LTE Subscribers have Topped 3 Million

docomo-desk-2

NTT Docomo is announcing today that its total amount of subscribers to its LTE Xi service surpassed the 3 million user mark on June 8th. Readers may recall that it was only back in March when the company announced its 2 millionth LTE subscriber.

With a number of LTE enabled handsets and mobile wi-fi devices now in its lineup, subscriber growth has been pretty sharp since last November, as you can see in the chart below, which includes figures up until the end of May. With even more LTE additions to its handset lineup, including the Samsung Galaxy III and the rest of its Next series, expect LTE adoption to continue growing well.

Looking at the overall picture in Japan’s mobile space, updated figures from Japan’s Telecom Carriers Association show Docomo at nearly 60.4 million total subscribers [1]. Au has about 35.5 million, while rival Softbank should reach a milestone of its own in a few months, as it is slowly approaching 30 million. But expect the iPhone 5 to shake things up a little whenever it hits Japan.

  1. Again, figures are up until the end of May. TCA will have figures for June once the month is over.  ↩
