GeoSocials is a Gorgeous Looking Location-based Social Game, But…

geosocialsGeoSocials is an India-based SCVNGR clone, but better designed. It promises players that there will be no check-ins in its iOS mobile app, which was launched about a week ago. The basic mobile/social/location-based gamification styles are more or less in place – explore the location, do challenges, and win rewards. In that sense, it’s very much similar to SCVNGR.

But from a user’s point of view, GeoSocials looks and feels different thanks to its unique design. The user interface is gorgeous, giving users an option to roam around the map in three different views – H, M, and S.

On SCVNGR, challenges are basically set by businesses that can determine if players get real rewards. In contrast, GeoSocials allows users to drop a challenge on a location and pit their wits against other players to get points. It has a local and global leadership board to motivate users to complete challenges and rise up in within the rankings. You can watch the demo below to get a better feel for the platform:

GeoSocials is currently only available for U.S gamers. I managed to download it but there aren’t any activities going on in the Singapore region. Given the intensity of competition in the U.S – with SCVNGR, Foursquare, etc. – I’m not sure why GeoSocials has decided to focus only on the western markets. But then again, the concept isn’t exactly new and clones aren’t very well received in the U.S. About a week after its launch, GeoSocials only has about 60+ users, according to its global leaderboard.

While I see much potential in GeoSocials, especially with its gorgeous UI, launching in the U.S seems suicidal to me. Perhaps, GeoSocials could be better off by focusing on India, where SCVNGR hasn’t gotten much of a foothold.

Bouncity, also a SCVNGR clone which was recently launched in Indonesia and has seen pretty good results in its first month, racking up 16,000 users and 325,000 completed challenges. We will talk to GeoSocials to find out more about its plan, and see if we can get their thoughts on launching the app in the U.S.
