LBS Start-up, GeoSocials, Launches Android App To The World

GeoSocials-Android

Some of our readers might remember GeoSocials as the location-based app which first targeted the U.S despite being an India-based start-up. Nonetheless, it has gotten quite good traction as the app was recently selected as one of the favorites by Apple staff.

Today, I learned from Krishna Prathab, the founder of GeoSocials, that the Android version is now freshly baked and being made available to the world. Plus, GeoSocials’ Android users will get the latest update of the location-based service. iPhone users will have to wait for a couple of weeks. So what’s new in GeoSocials for Android?

Krishna explains that the app will have a new feature entitled “Vote a deal” baked-in. This new feature allows users to vote for a deal even if the business isn’t already on GeoSocials. A vote will automatically help the business to set up a page on GeoSocials – and so far there are already several Android users who have voted for deals. Krishna explained to me further via Skype:

vote-a-dealInstead of giving you generic deals, we show you businesses around your location and you can vote for a deal there. Based on the number of requests in a place for a deal, we plan to approach the establishment and see if they are interested in offering a deal to our users. This way we show establishments an existing customer base who is already interested in a deal with them even before they have offered a deal.

It sounds like a cool idea — crowdsourced requests to gauge what users want before approaching these business to work on a deal offer. Let’s see if it works.

On top of the Android app release, GeoSocials will also be offering its iOS app to the India market starting from today. The Indian app will be the same as the one in the U.S. So don’t expect to get a customized experience. That’s a little bit of a let-down, but its fun and gorgeous design is good enough reason for you to give it a try.
