Exclusive: Location-based Startup, GeoSocials Scores Big On iTunes
We love sharing good news about start-ups, so here’s one from India today. GeoSocials, the location-based gaming start-up, has scored big on iTunes with its new app. You might recall that we reported in detail on GeoSocials last week, so for some background information you might want to check that out here and here.
CEO and founder Krishna Prathab excitedly shared some good news with us, passing on a screenshot (above) showing that GeoSocials is featured on iTunes in 25 places, including being featured on Apple’s App Store homepage in nine countries. Furthermore, it’s listed as a staff favorite in a number of countries, including Belgium, Greece, Denmark, Egypt (wow!) and many more. That’s not too shabby for any new app on iTunes.
Furthermore, Krishna also revealed that his GeoSocials app has been picked as one of the best-designed apps by both SmashApp and iOS Inspires Me, and is one of the top-rated apps at Overlapps. We love the design too, as we wrote last week.
GeoSocials was targeted at the U.S market but actually did better in non-U.S markets. That’s an interesting turn of events. I spoke to Krishna and he said he was equally surprised by the result too. Well, that’s how start-ups roll, isn’t it? Tracking data and taking the next step according to how users behave and interact with the products.
20 days after it first launched, GeoSocials has recorded over 700 downloads — 35 per day on average. Out of these 700 users, 500 of them are active users. That means over 70 percent are active, and that’s a very healthy proportion of engaged users. With iTunes showering love all over the app, we can expect even more users to join in the GeoSocials party.
Talking to Penn Olson, a clearly delighted Krishna said
We are glad to see Apple staff from more than nine countries listing us as their favorite app and being featured in the “New & Noteworthy” section in 16 places on iTunes in total.
We also learned that GeoSocials will be launching its Android app for the Asia market “very soon” and we hope that the user experience will be the same as on its iOS app. Stay tuned, folks.
