It seems mobile app development in Indonesia is experiencing a boom. Co-founder of TouchTen Anton Soeharyo told us that Hackiko HD Lite [iTunes link], an app released in late May, has reached the top 10 in U.S and Japan as the most downloaded free mobile app last week. (See image, here.)
Hachiko is an iconic dog in Japan who continued to wait patiently at the train station for its master many years after he died. Soeharyo was inspired to create this app as he was a graduate at Waseda University, Japan. The game app tests your intelligence and finger reflexes as you help Hachiko (the dog) break the crates to reach the bone.
“We are also number one in Indonesia, just in time with the release of iPad 2 [here]” said Soeharyo.”

Previously Touchten also released an iOS game entitled Sushi Chain, which was downloaded by more than two million players worldwide within a year. Soeharyo was delighted with Hachiko’s performance as well:
We jumped out of our seats when we found out about the rankings, I just couldn’t believe that a game based on the Japanese legendary loyal dog, made by an Indonesian, could be a hit in the USA and Japan.
Touchten.com is focused on developing more games for the iOS platform in the future, and they believe that one day, an Indonesian mobile app developer firm like themselves can beat surpass even the most popular titles like Angry Birds.
