GemFest 2013, Opportunity for indie Indonesian mobile game developers

Kreon has recently announced GemFest 2013, an annual Indonesian Android game design competition, with a total prize of Rp 50 million ($5,000) and a variety of promotional benefits for the winning game. Kreon is one of the largest online game publishers in Indonesia, currently servicing more than 10 games such as Point Blank and Dragon Nest.

GemFest 2013 marks Kreon’s first step toward launching its newly-established Kreon Mobile. Kreon Mobile is a division of Kreon which specializes in mobile content, mostly games. Jinhyoung Kil, mobile division manager of Kreon, claims that Kreon Mobile wants to grow along with mobile developers and the ecosystem in Indonesia.

GemFest 2013 will be open to any and all mobile game (Android) developers in Indonesia. Regional final competitions will be held in 3 cities – Jakarta, Bandung, and Yogyakarta. A total of 6 entries will be selected as winners, receiving a record total of Rp 50 million (roughly around $5,000) in prize money along with a variety of promotional benefits. The 1st and 2nd winners of GemFest 2013 will be published in GemStore, which is Kreon Mobile’s game store platform, and will be given full commercial support including QA, marketing, PR, IDC, network, and customer service. Kreon Mobile will also give the winners the opportunity to continue working together in the form of publishing deals and more.

Developers who wish to participate should sign up directly on the GemFest 2013 website and register their game prototype along with game document on GemFest website. Registration will be closed in 12th October 2013.

A potential opportunity for Indonesian mobile game developers

For those of you who didn’t know yet, Kreon is the company behind Indonesia’s famous online game platform Gemscool. It has over 2.5 million users, and has held number one market share since 2012 in Indonesia. While Kreon Mobile is a new division, Kreon will surely utilize its famous game platform to market their new mobile products. This contest represents a good opportunity for Indonesian indie mobile game developers to make their names and earn big market share for their games.
