G-Star 2014 lineup taking shape as Sony, Unity join local exhibitors

Korea’s largest games industry trade show, G-Star, goes down November 20-23 at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO). The major fixtures of the main floor plan were made available today.

G-Star’s English site has the floor plan as “under preparation,” but the major players have staked out their encampments at the swag battleground that is BEXCO.

Of the five most prominent booths, Korean companies NCSoft, Nexon Korea, Monawa and Ntreev Soft join Sony Entertainment, who thus far seems to be the only console maker betting on the convention.

Other Korean companies like XL Games, Neople, and Smilegate, as well as the booming game engine developer Unity help round out the main floor. Absent from the floor plan were staples like Riot and Blizzard, but it’s difficult to imagine them not making a showing.

As of September 1, the event had 2,071 registered booths. Of those, 875 were of the business-to-business variety. So far the contingency is represented by just 25 countries, down slightly from the 2012 and 2013 numbers of 31 and 32 nations represented respectively.

With Korean player base largely focused on domestic and a few well-seasoned foreign titles like League of Legends, does the event hold much appeal? Do you think Sony is going to move any consoles in Korea?
