Futaba Shows Off Flexible OLED Concept Watch at CEATEC Japan

futaba OLED watch

In the new age of smartphones, wearing a watch on your wrist is no longer the necessity that it once was. But Japanese electronics maker Futaba Corporation (TYO:6986) hopes you might one day reconsider.

At CEATEC Japan (Japan’s answer to CES), the company was showing off a flexible OLED smart-watch concept. The screen, at just 0.22mm thick, can be wrapped around your wrist, giving you a 3.5-inch display that out-mobiles even your mobile phone.

I had a chance to play around with the demo screen, as you can see in the video below. If this ever goes into production, I’m sure it will be in a far different form. But its fun to think that new products like this are just around the corner, giving us access to some of our favorite applications in such a futuristic form.
