“WhiteHat Jr and its founder Karan Bajaj have withdrawn a 200 million rupee (US$2.7 million) defamation suit filed in November 2020 against their critic Pradeep Poonia, in which it was alleged that Poonia had infringed their trademark, copyright along with invasion of privacy,” reported Entrackr.
Details:
- Poonia, a software engineer, said that the Indian edtech company had withdrawn its case against him in the Delhi High Court.
- WhiteHat Jr, which is owned by edtech titan Byju’s, also confirmed that it dropped the lawsuit against Poonia.
Context:
- In November 2020, WhiteHat Jr CEO Karan Bajaj sued Poonia for defamation over comments he made on the company’s advertisements as well as for exposing its internal chats.
- The case was filed soon after a lengthy investigative report by The Morning Context that raised questions about WhiteHat Jr’s online reputation management practices. Poonia highlighted some of its methods and said that he got threats from the edtech firm.
