After two years serving as the managing director of Flash Coffee in Indonesia, Maxime Chaury announced his departure from the company to launch a new financial management platform in Australia called Upworth.
“In two years, with the incredible Indonesia team, we have transformed the smallest of the three initial Flash markets (and the most loss making) into the jewel of the crown, leading the way in both turnover and profitability,” Chaury said in a LinkedIn post.
He added that during his stint, his team managed to grow Flash Coffee’s net revenue by 33x within and expand Flash Coffee stores from 16 to 92 in the country.
Earlier this month, Flash Coffee announced it had closed a series B round of US$50 million.
In a statement, the company said it would expand deeper into Indonesia, with plans to open a branch in Surabaya in July. It currently operates outlets in other cities such as Jakarta and Bandung.
Besides Indonesia, Flash Coffee is also available in Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand, and Taiwan.
Flash Coffee was founded in 2020 by David Brunier, who is an ex-Foodpanda chief marketing officer, and former Bain & Company executive Sebastian Hannecker. The company offers premium coffee at more affordable prices – typically 50% lower than Starbucks.
