Extra Life 2013: Asia will have fun living or lurking it

What is an extra life? To some of us, it’s an additional boost that will help us get through a tough level. To others, it might literally be an extra shot at life.

Extra Life is a digital and analog gaming marathon held annually to raise money for charity. Specifically, children’s hospitals. While it originated in the USA back in 2008, it has since been opened to international participants. Think of it as a marathon, but with games instead of crazy, fast-on-your-feet, I-have-to-guzzle-energy-gel running.

Signing up is free, although there is a $15 platinum category that makes you eligible for a lot of cool goodies. Participants choose a charity they want to benefit (international participants can choose from three international hospitals in America) and they are awarded a page.

Here’s where stream client provider Xsplit comes in. Participants of Extra Life who raised a measly minimum of $15 will get a month’s Xsplit license completely free.

If you’re more inclined to lurk, you can enjoy the Xsplit Extra Life livestream from their Manila office. The stream is scheduled to take place tomorrow, 2nd Nov 2013, at 9pm Philippine Standard Time, and will see employees of Xsplit’s Manila development centre play games for 25 hours.

While you can’t exactly go to their office to join in the fun, the team will be playing a bunch of multiplayer games that the public is free to join. Their list of games isn’t finalized yet, but we were told that they’re definitely including more popular games like Minecraft and Rock Band.

The Xsplit team won’t be setting up definite servers, but they will be active on their Twitter, so be sure to chat with them there if you want to join in the fun.
