Aldi Haryopratomo, the former CEO of GoPay, has joined Indonesia-based entertainment company Visinema Group as a board member.

Additionally, Herry Salim, Disney’s former country manager for Indonesia, has been appointed group president and Visinema Studios CEO.

Founded in 2008 by filmmaker Angga Sasongko, Visinema Group operates in various aspects of the entertainment industry, including film production, content development, distribution, and intellectual property (IP) development.

Haryopratomo launched Mapan in 2009, a social commerce firm catering to low-income communities. After Gojek acquired it in 2017, he led GoPay – the company’s fintech division – where he helped launch features like QR payments and the paylater service.

He is also a board member at eFishery, Halodoc, and Kitabisa.

Commenting on his appointment, Haryopratomo pointed out how, like software, IPs can be scaled “exponentially” without the need for physical distribution. He also touted the film industry’s “outsized influence.”

“For example, the rise of Korean movies has made Korean songs, food, fashion, and beauty products to be sought after globally,” he said. “I’m excited to be a part of Visinema to bring Indonesia’s stories, culture, and products to a global audience.”

The group’s IP portfolio includes content such as animated series Nussa, puppet show Domikado, and Filosofi Kopi, a movie franchise and web series that helped popularize artisanal coffee in Indonesia.

As Indonesia’s tech space grew, its entertainment industry has attracted tech industry players from time to time. This includes GoTo, which ran video streaming arm GoPlay, though the group recently announced its exit from entertainment businesses.
