Founded in October 2021 by Amrullah Azmy, Terampil is an online learning platform focused on upskilling. The edtech platform currently provides 130 courses that are taught by more than 100 educators. Its courses include subjects such as sales, marketing and branding, operations, and tech, and finance and accounting.
Meanwhile, Teachmint is available in more than 30 countries and has more than 10 million users. The company’s solutions include videos powered by its proprietary tech that allows teachers to take live classes, record, store lectures, automate attendance, and conduct polls.
Southeast Asia in focus
The Terampil deal marks Teachmint’s second partnership with a Southeast Asian firm. In October 2021, Teachmint partnered with Malaysia’s Pandai, a Y Combinator-backed edtech startup, for live classroom solutions.
Teachmint’s acquisitions are aimed at product development and bringing more like-minded people on board, rather than driving revenue or inorganic growth, said CEO Mihir Gupta.
Its latest partnership comes amid a rising need to address the decline in the quality of teaching staff and supplies due to lower salaries and budgets for schools in Indonesia.
Gupta said the company sees huge potential in Indonesia, whose edtech market was worth US$200 million in 2020, according to a RedSeer report. He added that Teachmint launched its services in the country a few months ago and has since onboarded over 100,000 users.
The company said it was open to partnerships with more edtech firms in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. It is also looking to double its headcount in the next 12 months from the current 500 employees.
Gupta also told Tech in Asia that India – Teachmint’s largest market – has been its biggest revenue driver in 2021, and is likely to remain so for the rest of the year. The company is also seeing growth in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

In October 2021, Teachmint raised US$78 million in a series B round co-led by Rocketship and Vulcan Capital. The funding round reportedly valued the edtech firm at US$500 million. To date, Teachmint has raised nearly US$118 million.
Teachmint has also made a few acquisitions in recent months. Last December, it acquihired the Indian arm of Singapore-based edtech startup Teachee.
In the same month, it acquired AirLearn, an online video learning platform, and Teachmore, a course-selling platform that allows teachers to sell content such as online courses and quizzes.
