Everyone you love will eventually die, so go buy FFX?

Square Enix is hosting a promotional event this Christmas Eve that will remind us all that our loved ones will all eventually die. Sound inviting? No, probably not. But if you are looking to get your hands on Final Fantasy X/X-2 before its December 26 release, you may want to go anyway.

This promotional event is set to remind people of FF X/X-2’s star crossed love story, and Square has invited couples to come and be photographed for their very own poster. This poster will read, “We will inevitably someday part with our dearest friend. Therefore, I’d like to cherish that person who stands beside me.” It will look like this.

Pretty weird right?

Well not for the Japanese. Christmas has always been for couples in Japan, and the holiday is typically used to show your significant other you care for them. Although the message of inevitable separation is a sad one, it is a message used in many Japanese stories including FFX/X-2.

If you live in Tokyo, grab your significant other and head on down to Shibuya’s Marui City Shopping Center on December 24. Even if the poster doesn’t interest you in the least, the promotion will also provide you with some playtime with the newly remastered game, on top of some major boyfriend/girlfriend points.

For those of us who can’t make it, enjoy this promotional commercial that Square Enix posted for the event.
